A practical map of Malaysian app geo-segments

Why Klang Valley should not be your only lens—and how to choose a geographic level your data can support.

Geographic analysis becomes useful when it changes a decision. The right unit is not always the smallest possible area; it is the smallest area with enough signal to act responsibly.

Begin with the operating question

A marketing team comparing acquisition efficiency may start with states or major urban areas. A product team studying network-sensitive features may need a different grouping. Define the decision, minimum sample and comparison period before opening a map.

Treat Klang Valley as varied, not singular

Dense urban coverage can hide meaningful differences in channel mix, commuting patterns and device use. Compare stable cohorts and avoid attributing every difference to place when acquisition source or product version may explain it.

Protect useful anonymity

Suppress small groups, aggregate sparse locations and share only what colleagues need to decide. Better geo-analysis is not more granular by default; it is more credible, explainable and proportionate.
